TOUR AT THE STATE POLICE MUSEUM

At the Massachusetts State Police Museum and Learning Center, the prime emphasis is education. The goal of every volunteer in locating, preserving, and displaying our artifacts is to pass this information on to others. During the December, 2012 school vacation a sharp increase in requests for tours was noted.

Requests for tours continue to increase along with requests for information about the Massachusetts State Police.

One day in December two state police families paid a visit: Troopers Jessica & Michael Jennings, their sons Nicholas & David, Dad Bruce, and Uncle Wayne; also Trooper Matt Russell, his wife Allison, with their sons Benjamin and Samuel.

A Cub Scout Den visited shortly after this tour, our first Scout group. The youngsters enjoyed posing with the notorious prisoner "Joe Badguy" in cell #2. Then each was sworn in as a Junior Massachusetts State Trooper. After taking their “oath of office” each promised to always wear their seatbelt. The simulated duty desk includes a 1930s typewriter, telephone, and microphone that sounds a siren when the "push to talk" button is depressed.

Adults moved about the displays pointing out items of interest. Questions were asked, explanations given, many stories told, photos were taken, and there were a lot of big smiles. One highlight on all tours is when an original State Police Patrol badge is removed from its place of honor. Everyone is encouraged to hold and examine it. At this time the museum is not open to the public but guided tours for families, friends, and groups are available by appointment.
